Thanks to the generosity of Mimi Daitz, I was able to spend the glorious week of May 18, 1995 at a conference called "Gabriel Fauré: His Poets and His Critics". It took place on the campus of Bishop's University in Lenoxville, Quebec. Many interesting and revealing papers were delivered in addition to nightly concerts. At a reception following a concert of the complete nocturnes, I brought up the subject of the final page of the first act of Fauré's only opera, Pénélope to M. Jean-Michel Nectoux. He said that it is probably...
...the most beautiful page in all of Fauré
